The Doherty Hotel is located in downtown Clare, Michigan in Clare county, just north of Mt. Pleasant and west of Midland.   Convenience and location in the heart of the “Great Lakes State” makes Clare, Michigan a prime area to stop especially with all Clare county has to offer. Ski in the winter and golf in the summer at the many courses in the area. This is Amish country at its best, with top quality furniture shops and homemade goods available year round. This outstanding facility is an historic landmark in downtown Clare, Michigan, established in 1924 and run by the fourth generation of Dohertys.  The family attributes the hotels century-spanning success in part to its location, commenting, “Many guests can remember what it was like when downtowns were vibrant...”  Located in the center of Michigan, Clare still offers an abundance of that nostalgic downtown charm.

While holding onto its history and sophistication, the Doherty Hotel recently underwent an expansion adding three new meeting rooms and 66 new guest rooms, for a total 157 overnight accommodation.

Future plans include a 10,000 square foot conference center. The Dohertys intend “...to make the hotel large enough to handle sizable groups, while maintaining the warm and personal touch of a boutique hotel at the same time.”  Upon your first visit to this exceptional hotel, one is sure that the Dohertys are certainly on their way to accomplishing that and much more.
